Why they buy it.

For UAE fit-out and MEP subcontractors who run several sites at once and only learn a project's margin after handover, the Construction app is a branded project cost and payment application system that ties crew hours and materials to each project's cost codes and has a draft payment application ready at every cut-off. Unlike Excel BOQs, paper attendance sheets and chat messages, it warns you when a cost code nears its budget and calculates retention, advance recovery and approved variations for you, so you see a loss while there is still time to act.

The job, the pain, the gain.

What the people who run these businesses are trying to get done, what goes wrong today, and what changes.

The job

  • Deliver each project within budget and know where the money goes
  • Get the monthly payment application out on time and certified in full
  • Know who worked on which site, and for how long
  • Get the right materials to the right site without overspending

The pain

  • Labour hours and materials are not tied to projects, so the margin is known only when the job is finished.
  • The monthly payment application takes days in Excel, and retention, advance recovery and approved variations are easy to get wrong or forget.
  • Material requests arrive by chat message, and nobody sees what is approved, ordered or delivered to which site.

The gain

  • Cost per project, as it happens
Crew attendance marked on site from the phone, hours allocated to cost codes, and materials received or issued to the project. A warning comes when a cost code nears its budget.
  • Payment applications without the spreadsheet
A draft payment application at each cut-off. The QS enters progress, and approved variations, retention and advance recovery are calculated. The certified amount is recorded and the gap from the claim tracked.
  • Materials under control
Material requests against a cost code, approved by limits, turned into purchase orders and received at the site store. Supplier bills are matched to the PO and the delivery.

What makes it different.

Against BOQs and payment applications in Excel, attendance on paper, material requests by chat message, and against a generic suite with a module bolted on.

The IPA cycle, end to end

From an imported, priced BOQ to the draft payment application, certification and the tax invoice for the certified amount, with retention release after the defects liability period.

Site records tied to cost codes

Crew attendance with the location recorded on site, timesheets by cost code, and stock issued to the project, so the cost report and margin forecast stay current.

UAE contracting checks built in

Bank guarantees with expiry reminders, worker visa and ID expiry, and a check on a subcontractor's Dubai Municipality registration before a PO on a Dubai project.

A day with it.

07:30, the project manager's morning. As our demo tells it; the company and its data are fictional.

  1. The project manager logs in and sees what needs action: a cost code at 92% of its budget, two payment applications waiting too long for certification, a performance bond about to expire, and a site with no daily report yesterday.

  2. On site, the supervisor marks crew attendance in two taps, with the location recorded. The daily site report follows: manpower by trade, work done, photos and issues.

  3. A large material request needs two approvals: the project manager first, then the managing director. Procurement turns it into a purchase order.

  4. At month end the draft payment application is already there. The QS enters progress per BOQ line; variations, retention and advance recovery calculate themselves, and the PDF is ready to submit.

  5. When the certificate arrives, the certified amount is recorded and invoiced. The project cost report shows the overspending cost code and the margin forecast.

Inside the app.

Who it is for.

Subcontractors in fit-out, MEP, joinery, facade and civil works that run several sites at once for main contractors or directly for clients. They are paid through monthly interim payment applications with retention and variations.

Not for:

  • Firms that want project planning and Gantt charts: keep MS Project or Primavera
  • Very small firms with one or two jobs a year, who are better served by a spreadsheet
  • Main contractors whose main need is handling their own subcontractors' payment applications
  • Firms already on a construction ERP and happy with it

Also included.

  • Quotations from an imported BOQ, and variations
  • Retention release after practical completion and the defects liability period
  • Bank guarantees with expiry reminders
  • Daily site reports with photos
  • Snag lists with photos
  • Worker records with visa and ID expiry
  • Dubai Municipality registration check before a subcontractor PO
  • VAT summary and migration from your Excel files

What people ask.

  1. Excel works for us. Why change?

It works until the QS is on leave. The app warns you when a cost code nears its budget, reminds you of uncertified payment applications and expiring bonds, and keeps labour and materials tied to each project. Your BOQs and worker lists are the migration input.

  2. We already use Tally, Zoho or QuickBooks.

Keep it for the books. The app covers projects, payment applications, attendance, materials and supplier bills, and gives your accountant a VAT summary. Accounting export is on the roadmap.

  3. Our sites have no signal.

The app needs a connection. Without one, the supervisor keeps a paper or photographed list and enters it within the late-entry window. An offline mode is on the roadmap.

  4. Does it produce the WPS salary file?

Not yet. Approved timesheets are exported for your payroll today. Payroll and the WPS file are on the roadmap.
